FMCSA Issues Regional
Emergency Declaration

On Friday, January 10, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a Regional Emergency Declaration covering the entire continental United States in response to the severe winter storms, extreme low temperatures, and high fuel demand the country is facing. The declaration is linked below.

This declaration comes after multiple meetings with FMCSA senior staff and constant communication with FMCSA officials sharing the extraordinary efforts of the propane industry to safely meet the needs of our consumers as well as round-the-clock coordination with state and regional association leaders and other coalition partners. NPGA thanks our hardworking membership and state and regional associations for the invaluable input and information that we gathered and were able to share with federal officials in advocating that they issue this declaration.

The Emergency Declaration provides emergency relief from hours of service requirements for drivers providing direct assistance supporting emergency relief efforts transporting heating fuel, including propane into the affected states. The declaration is effective immediately and shall remain in effect until the end of the emergency (as defined in 49 CFR § 390.5T) or until 11:59 P.M. (ET), January 31, 2025, whichever is sooner. The waiver covers the entire continental United States.
